ONE YEAR
by Brittany Albert
What a whirl wind of a year!
Can I be honest?
Operating an online business is WAY more work than I ever imagined! Haha! Opening this business with all of our hopes and dreams going into it, you know it's going to be a lot of work but no one ever knows how much work it actually is.
I will be the first to admit, some days I'm killing it and doing all the things...other *ahem, most* days I live in an upside down state trying to find decor and laundry.
We have been "live" on the internet for one year, but our journey actually started a few months prior when we applied for our tax ID number and got the ball rolling.
July 3rd, 2021, Stephen and I were driving down the road and I was sharing with him these ideas I had for creating these pieces to sell and thinking of “maybe starting another business, small business." He said, "Babe, go for it. I can't begin to you how excited this makes me for you!"
He has alway's been my biggest fan. I used to joke with people that I would have to watch what I said around him, because if I said "I think I want to start baking cakes and sell them" magically commercial baking equipment would show up. If I said "I think I'm really going to go for photography this year," all the camera equipment anyone would need showed up. If i said, "I'm going to start writing more music" the piano of my dreams showed up.
I guess you could say I'm slightly entrepreneur-ish, and he's all about it!
All in all, I couldn't do it without him.
We really did start out with a plan to only sell hand made pieces. But once I got my wholesale accounts I got too excited! It has been a lot of fun to find and purchase items that I think people will love. But I hope you will see more handmade pieces in the future!
Since we have started our home decor business our wood working side business has developed pretty organically. We have expanded our shop for the second time due to custom table orders. We are in the process now of looking for a wood slab for our biggest table yet. Building things in our wood shop is one way we get our kids involved in the process. As I think most parents would say, our kids are our biggest inspiration! We want them to see how you can work for yourself, be creative, it be fun and worth it (even in the not so fun times lol!).
I have dabbled in handmade pieces this year. We were able to supported our kids for summer camp with handmade items. Handmade items take TIME! One thing I'm learning in life is you can't say yes to everything. If you say yes to everything, you are really saying no to the things that matter most and that will probably take more time.
I can't begin to thank our family and friends. You have showed up for us, said yes to supporting us. Because of you, we have made it this far.
Here's to another year of figuring it out, saying yes to the things that matter, and always filling our home with items that bring us joy.
Lastly….
